There are different types of laws we see for the Israelites, these all seem to be the moral kind of laws. Reminds me of a knights code of honor which I've been reading about recently. Ultimately, other than the idol one, we don't hear about the Israelites breaking these on any kind of grand scale. They stop loving God and that's always what gets them into trouble. That's a choice we make every day. Yahweh, I surrender to you. Holy Spirit help me to surrender every day.

True. But there seems to be an unofficial government in that they have separate tribes with their own leaders and authorities. And much of what we have been reading are laws that seem geared towards helping people get along and dispense appropriate justice. It's interesting thoughts though.

9 Then Moses and the Levitical priests said to all Israel, “Keep silence and hear, O Israel: this day you have become the people of the Lord your God. 10 You shall therefore obey the voice of the Lord your God, keeping his commandments and his statutes, which I command you today.” Interesting that this is an event that just happened. Werent they God's people all along? Strikes me like a coming of age ceremony for a boy becoming a man. Nothing really changed overnight, but you have to mark the significance.
