I've been thinking a bit about promises from God after reading this. I think someone gave me a book one that was all a compilation of promises from the scriptures. It might be cynical, but I find myself contemplating the things God hasn't promised me. Good hasn't promised to keep me safe, or to keep me alive, or healthy. His hasn't promised that I'll be comfortable, financially secure, or blessed in any material way. God has promised rest despite all these things that may or may not be in my life past present or future. And I guess that might be all I need. It can be difficult to remember that. Being at peace takes some mental effort on my part, but effort I will give.

And they had rest on all sides. If only it could have stayed that way indefinitely. It's out nature to get restless even when things are good. Contentment is hard!
