God of mercy and God of justice. Like Tony I have a work situation. Employee stole 5 figures worth of cash and now I have a tough decision. Insurance covers it but only if I send him to jail. What is mercy? God giving us mercy, is it freedom from justice? Is it not getting what we deserve? We still have natural consequences, is mercy just a lesser sentence? What is this writer referring to when he talks about mercy? Being saved from death? Winning a battle? Who knows. What is God's mercy now?

Just something I noticed was that David is actively seeking mercy. While freely given it's still a relational transaction in which we have a part.
