This chapter just shows me how little I know or could possibly presume to know about anything. It puts me in this spiral of thought about judgment, creation, reason for being, value of life, free will, God's direct action at time and his lack of action at others, Israel, the fact God has "people" distinct from other people. Oh yeah, I remember now I'm not going to think about anything prescriptive here, and just take it for what it is. To your comments Tony, am I understanding you right in that God picked you out of the crowd for grace and not others, say an egyptian firstborn? Is this a matter of predestination? I think for me it makes sense if we are made in God's image, we are kinda volatile. I think its biblical that God gets angry right? Well, we don't get much info on this story at least on the why a mass killing instead of some magnificent display of God's beauty that would have been undeniable to even pharaoh. Or if God has no problem inflicting harm on people why not just hoist him up into a massive beam of light that everyone can see where he suffers for eternity and serves as a remind? That's kind of what this section of the Bible feels like to me. My point I guess is simply we aren't given this information so we have some room to assume. And for me I think it makes the most sense to assume he just got mad.

Always a rough chapter to read. The consequences of Pharaohs actions are dire and not limited to himself but his entire nation. Just another reminder to pray for our own leaders.
