Tony mentioned Jacob's fear driven actions. Jacob here doesn't trust God to protect his family even after they wrestled. There are no perceived consequences or rebuke for his lack of trust. I wonder if there is a practical level of fear we should have. Should we split our families in two? Backup plans seem practical, but also don't demonstrate a great amount of faith. It seems that sin certainly has its hold on the earth and God doesn't always prevent its consequences to his children. This makes me think unless I have very clear vision I am hearing something from God (not sure I've experienced this in my life) it's wise to take practical precautions as did Jacob. Let me know if you disagree.

You don't typically think of Esau as a hero. But given the circumstances, he pulls off a monumental act of forgiveness here. I think if it were me, I would have dutifully forgiven but wouldn't have let my brother off without a few verbal jabs. God, give me the character of Esau to show kindness and true forgiveness to my brother.
