What an odd story. How can you steal someones blessing. Is there a metaphor im missing?

This is one of those chapters that makes believe God makes lemonade from lemons. Which is good, because I'm a lemon too. But it does seem there are laws that are given to us, that we abide by and God abides by them too even though he doesn't have to of course. Though I'm not sure this law still exists, apparently at that time God gave them the ability to hand out a single blessing to one of their children (I'll say I'm glad thats not the case today even though I probably would have ruled over my siblings which might have had its advantages). I do wish sometimes the moral of the story would be a little more straightforward. I remember this story from when I was a kid... what a horrible story for a kid! I wonder how many of my brother's and I's quarrels are a result of me seeing Jacob make off like a bandit under the approving eye of his mother.
