Couple thoughts, the first in the beginning of this chapter. 4 for they would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods. It's interesting to me that there is essentially a competition between the other Gods and the true God despite the fact they don't exist. Evangalism is a bit of a confusing concept to me because I know God shows himself to everyone. But here in the old testament I just realized that essentially God is ordering a counter evangalism. He sees that his people could be persuaded against him. To me, I can't really reconcile this with predestination. My second thoughts were how simple Moses makes it sound. Follow and obey and all is well, don't do that and wrath will fall on you. We all know our real lives and our decision making processes are just not that straightforward. However, I think that he is a good leader in that he keeps the goals simple and focused, hoping that other things will spring from the fruits of obedience.

In Deuteronomy 6 Tony brought up a reason the Jews had a hard time accepting Jesus. I think this chapter denouncing intermingling with sinners is another one given that Jesus specifically made that point over and over in his responses to prostitutes and tax collectors.
