I'm not sure I interpreted the end of this chapter correctly but it made me think anyway. Job asks, "who will see my hope?" Looking at Job's suffering it seems natural that we should find some redemptive value in it, like a martyr who gains recognition for a cause. I know all of Job's family and all his servants have already been slaughtered... (at least I think, maybe I'm ahead). So who is he doing this for? His friends who you'd think would be simply happy he's alive think he's getting punished... not sure how that brings anyone hope. In the end, I guess he brings hope to future generations he probably never knew would be reading and writing about him now. A poster child for keeping the faith in any circumstance.

Reading this was just a reminder of what good lives we have from a physical standpoint. At least those of us who aren't high school principals. What if Job had never been put in this position but just gone on being successful. Did he come out better in the end? There was some redemption but I pray for God to keep his covering over me and my family. And God help me navigate this prosperity in a way that honors you.
