Except in this very chapter Uriah the prophet dies at the hands of King Jehoikim. Our early lives are fragile I think with our without a relationship with God.

Interesting that the credit for Jeremiah's survival was given to Ahikam and not to God. God is sovereign no doubt but the difference between Uriah losing his life and Jeremiah not was someone choice to stand with him. One of the things I keep hearing about young men right now is that they don't have purpose. The cause of this is sometimes attributed to video games, feminism, or a number of other things but ultimately I think the root is that they don't feel like their choices have the potential for meaningful change in the world. But it only takes being awake and aware to see that there are good causes like that of Ahikam standing with someone speaking the truth in support. I hope that I can instill this in my boys.
