Throughout this book God is exercising a lot of control of the fate of the israelites beyond natural consequences. It's interesting that there isn't more discussion of afterlife. The consequences are all predicted for their lifetime or a future generation but not a lot of talk about the eternal considering what a blip our lives are.

32 It is not for your sake that I will act, declares the Lord GOD; let that be known to you. Be ashamed and confounded for your ways, O house of Israel.
If not for their sake, is it for ours? Their sons and daughters? I can't imagine it's all for God's sake as he is already perfect.
