17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is than a fattened ox and hatred with it.
There is something great about having meals with friends and family. In my eyes the less formal the better, not that formality is equivalent to hatred. But the verse reminds me of mary and martha. How many opportunities for relationship do I miss because I don't want people over because the house looks like its actually being lived in or the fridge is looking like my 4 boys just managed to consume 18000 calories for breakfast.

I'm usually too prideful to reach out. Which ties in vs 25. The Lord tears down the house of the proud.
Knowing these proverbs doesn't seem like the hard part but rather doing them. Still, if you aren't reading and meditating on them them you are really in trouble.

Practically I don't really know how you systematically break down that barricade. Situations will force you too. I'm sure with the Holy Spirits help we can but seems like there must be some exercises out there to help out.
