So, being dependent on God vs working your butt of like the ant... I probably sound like a broken record by now but I really don't know what it means to be dependent on God. Are we talking only an emotional dependence? The one thing still sticking in my mind is Doug's previous comment about the ship that comes to rescue the guy on the island. Do we do our best, work our hardest, and only when we are in a tight spot depend on God? I definitely feel more like the ant. I feel like I am responsible for my own actions and for the financial provision for myself and family. An examples from those who feel they have a strong dependence on God, not just when they are in a tough situation but just in their general life, let me know what that looks like in a practical form.

Wow. Thanks for all the replies. I think Greg for not understanding my question most directly answered it. Based on this and previous scripture and discussion I think that you are really putting your trust in the Holy Spirit. Yes we work for the Lord but that doesn't imply dependence to me. But how much do we work? The only thing I can think of is trusting the Holy Spirit to tell you. I'm guessing nobody had ever gotten a mystery Spirit in their bank account direct from God. We earn it by the choices we make. In that sense we are independent. We are however dependent on the spirit for guidance in those choices. The only problem, I can never discern the spirit. Guess I'll just keep prayin.

A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest,11 and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.
We had a little discussion about this in 2014 too. Don't we sort of have the opposite problem in our modern times. Maybe I should take the advice and actually watch the ant... I'm not sure how much they rest and if they play at all.
