One thing I'm noticing that's sort of unique about this story is Nehemiah's desires appear to be in sync with God's. A lot of times we see a directive from God in the OT and then someone following or being disobedient. Here we see Nehemiah is led by his passion and rather than seeking guidance he's seeking divine support. Sometimes God speaks to us in our gut, when we are in relationship with him, and our goals are aligned, good things happen.
