"or to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. " This is so easy to forget. It reminds me of a documentary I watched a while back about a group of African men who come from a refugee camp who get a free ticket to the US as a part of a program and they get jobs and live in an apartment. In Africa they dreamed about it all the time and their family and friends were crying at the opportunity for them to come. After a short time they become depressed. They are working so much just to pay their bills that they stop hanging out with eachother. They live isolated lives and start watching tv all the time and ultimately desire their old life at the refugee camp. I find its particularly easy for both us and our families as well to become discontent and as the provider my first reaction is to start looking for solutions to their material problems. Even knowing that its not right, I still find addressing the problem difficult. It's doesn't seem right to just say "Buck up". They are dealing with real emotions and real wants and to dismiss it doesn't seem fair, but at the same time I don't want to feed the cycle. Yahweh give me wisdom.
